Future Leaders will emerge
As Mr. Snitch reports, a recent Letter to the Editor printed in last weekend's Hoboken Reporter provided a fair and balance view of the mayoral race while commenting on those of us who represent the future of Hoboken politics. The letter is reprinted on Mr. Snitch's site: http://mistersnitch.blogspot.com/2005/06/letter-of-year.html .

DeLea endorsement exposes his values
Thursday, June 09, 2005
The "Political Insider" column on May 21 called Hoboken City Council candidate Scott DeLea someone whom "a few describe . as the Howard Dean of the city." As organizer of the local affiliate of Dean's Democracy for America organization, I'd like to share our group's experience with Mr. DeLea.
DFA groups are organized through Meetup.com. When a new member joins, they are allowed to post a blurb on our site to introduce themselves, usually stating their values and why they're joining the group. A few express positions on local races, but not as the focus of their statement.
About three months ago, DeLea joined our group, posted a blurb simply stating he was running for office, gave his campaign Web address, and then never contacted us again. Three of our monthly meetups have come and gone, and he has not bothered to show up and tell us about himself. After the May 10 election, I sought to meet with him to discuss why our group supports the Carol Marsh ticket. Before any meeting took place, he endorsed David Roberts for the runoff.

DeLea is free to endorse whomever he wishes. But DFA is made up largely of Dean's campaign veterans, dedicated to bringing regular people into a politics dominated by special interests. By supporting Roberts, whose campaign received virtually no contributions from individuals, over Marsh, who's backed entirely by individual donors and passionate volunteers, DeLea revealed what he really stands for, and it couldn't be further from Dean's values.
Dean got into politics because he wanted a bike path. For Marsh, it was a park. DFA espouses those politics - the improvement of people's lives, instead of the backroom shenanigans for which our county is infamous. We wish DeLea had sought our opinion, instead of using us for self-promotion.

Howard Dean may have started out wanting a bike path but he has morphed into something else.
He is being held at bay by his very own party due to his outrageous comments about others.
Scott Delea may have passion but I would not compare him to Howard Dean.
Scott is a uniter. Howard is a divider.
But enough of that. Remember to vote next week - June 14th. Hoboken has a chance to send a message to the City.
Why not vote for one mayoral candidate and the other's council slate? This would send a message and put into place a stronger set of checks and balances??
Or, just vote for the slate you believe offers the best leadership for our great little town.
Hoboken Has It. Hoboken Has It.
